ETL RevampsVictoria's Environmental Technologies Limited. (ETL) has made vast changes this year. This spring, ETL took over Penner Paper and signed a 10 year agreement with Vancouver Island Recycling Centres (VIRC). Penner keeps their name, with Jason Adams managing operations. Pauline Penner has started her own consulting business. VIRC, with depots in Ladysmith, Nanaimo and Campbell River, has agreed to sell ETL 16,000 metric tonnes of recyclables each year over the 10 year period. A new "Balemaster" baler worth over $1/4 million replaces 2 older balers, and a new loader and forklifts will keep things moving in the warehouse. Scale and billing software are now being phased in, ideally to keep the traffic moving in ETL's cramped yard. And they topped it off with a new corporate logo this spring. General Manager Ian Kidd hopes these changes will help ETL capture even more of the estimated 7% of household recyclables they currently handle in the CRD area.
