Hornby Island Recycling Centre Turns 20
A most remarkable local recycling effort is recognized by CWMA
representatives Maura Walker, Janet Leblancq, Roy Ostling, Kathy Kenny,
Nickie Polson, Brenda Phillips, Hamish Thoms, and Andy Telfer.
The Hornby Island Recycling Centre celebrated its 20th birthday this summer, marking two decades of service to its 1,000 members. Since 1978, the Centre has been a leader in implementing reduction, reuse, and recycling services and education programs in its community. Hornby Island residents now generate less than half a kilogram of garbage per person per day, one quarter of the provincial average.
CWMA is fortunate to have the Hornby Island Recycling centre as a member and its Manager, Janet LeBlancq, as Director. The Centre's success points to the strength of volunteerism and community spirit that defines the not-for-orofit organizations that make up one-third of CWMA's membership. Happy Birthday Hornby Island Recycling
Centre!
