Zero Waste Movement Comes to BC

BC's newest grassroots movement in the waste management industry is starting out with a BANG. No less than Joan Sawicki, the BC Minister of the Environment, will kick off Zero Waste BC's inaugural summit meeting on October 3, in Vancouver. The international lineup includes speakers Warren Snow of Zero Waste New Zealand, Larry Chalfan of Zero Waste Oregon, and Bill Rees of the University of BC. The theme is Creating Resources for a New Economy. The movement was largely spurred on by the April Ministry of the Environment announcement not to move beyond the goal of 50% waste reduction by the year 2000 Summit Sponsors include CWMA, BC Environment, RCBC, Footprint Consulting and Mary Jean O'Donnell.
